Brockville, Ontario, Canada - October 1 & 2, 2005

This was a magnificent event, both in a hospitality and religious sense.

Celebrating 25 years of chiming at St. Peters Anglican Church by Don Wright.

Visiting chimers played the St. Peter's chime from 3:30-6 pm. There was so much to learn.
Saturday evening, we had a wonderful dinner in Don's honor with Family, friends and visiting chimers..
Sunday, St. Peter's honored Don at an impressive 10:00am service.
Rev. Canon Michael Read made a moving Sermon about the meaning of bells in Christian life and how Don had fulfilled a ministry with his welcoming and sending people in the spirit of God.
Later, Rob Millikin made a presentation to Don from all the chimers in which he said all that may have been left out in the sermon.
Then the 30 member choir serenaded Don with "The Bells of St. Peters" to the tune of "The Bells of St. Marys".
The choir was also impressive in its size and that it occupied 5 different locations at various times.
Many listened to the chimes played by various chimers after the service.
Then we went inside to a wonderful reception in Don's honor.
Don gave a gracious speech and asked for people to learn the chimes so that he wouldn't feel guilty about spending time at his retirement cottage.
We said our goodbyes and left for our homes, some more than 300 miles away.

Chimers attended from Petrolia (Christ Church), Stratford (St. James), Oshawa (St. Georges) and Troy, NY (St. Patricks).

Text that we can remember from the speeches of Canon Read and Rob Millikin were so beautiful and moving that they will eventually appear (as remembered) on this site.
They gave purpose and meaning to chiming that we may never have realized.

This type of event is an opportunity for all who are interested in the great bells that we play to get together to compare notes, music, adjustments, maintenance suggestions etc.  All too often we labour within our individual belfries, without communication with others who share our interest.  Now is the time for us to get together and find out what is happening in the world of bells.
